Peter Clarke FRICS, FAAV has over 45 years’ experience within the property industry. He was one of three Partners of Palmer Snell (Palmer Snell was established in 1811 and is one of the largest advisory and agency businesses in the South of England) prior to the sale of the business to London and Manchester and subsequently Countrywide Plc. Peter remained with the company as Chairman of the Board with responsibility for a number of property brands including Palmer Snell before leaving to oversee the Clarke Family Office. He was a founding director of a significant British property fund that has provided a 5x return on equity to investors through its acquisition of approximately 250 properties located in the South of England. The remaining portfolio is managed today by the Old Mill Group. During 2014 Peter established with his partners the Du Val Group as a vehicle to facilitate investment in key real estate markets.
Owen Culliney, a Partner of iCLAW is Du Val’s Solicitor. Owen has worked with Du Val on several key projects and provide specialist counsel on corporate matters as well as general legal support from the firm’s Auckland and Hamilton offices. Owen is also a director on certain of Du Val’s boards in order to provide strategic guidance on Du Val’s business interests and he aptly juggles these roles and the running of a busy corporate practice with several overseas and large corporate clients.
Mr Dell is the independent Chairperson of the Advisory Board. He is currently involved in a range of business activities which include acting as Managing Director of Dell Consulting Limited, a funds management consultancy that provides advice and services to a number of high profile government, community and commercial organisations. Prior to launching Dell Consulting in 2014, Mr Dell was Head of Product and Performance for ANZ Bank’s Funds Management Division, an Associate General Counsel at ANZ Bank, General Counsel for ING New Zealand and a Senior Lawyer at Russell McVeagh. The Advisory Board benefits from his over 20 years’ of funds management, governance, legal and compliance experience.
Kenyon Clarke is an experienced entrepreneur and company director with a background in property investment and development, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and private equity. Between 2001 and 2008 he completed in excess of $200m of direct property transactions as principle within the serviced apartments/hospitality, residential and commercial sectors. Since 2008 he has focused on establishing quality investments on behalf of third parties, predominantly working with high net worth clients and institutional investors prior to co-founding the Du Val Group with his partners. Notable achievements include securing £98m of equity investment for a central London tower project and the establishment of a number of New Zealand domiciled separate account mandates to acquire quality residential led and mixed-use property in key metropolitan centers.
Charlotte Clarke is responsible for the day to day operations of the Du Val Group of companies. She comes from a broad background in the property sector including property valuation, management, development and investment across the New Zealand market. Charlotte works alongside the Chief Executive to enhance the internal organisation processes and infrastructure that will allow the Du Val Group to continue to grow and fulfil its mission. She works tirelessly to put in place operational structure to drive a steady and strong team of committed and loyal people to exceptional results ensuring the on-going success of each division.
Ken Hight is responsible for Du Val’s investment pipeline within the Auckland market. He comes from an engineering background where he worked on significant infrastructure projects in Australasia, Asia and Europe. He is one of New Zealand’s recognised residential property investment experts with experience in investment selection, analysis, acquisition, portfolio structuring and performance. Independently from his role with Du Val, Ken is an experienced investor and an inspiring public speaker who enjoys sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with the property investment community. Ken oversees site selection, acquisition, due diligence and town planning for Du Val and also works alongside the Chief Executive to structure separate account mandates with Du Val’s private wealth clients and monitor portfolio performance against agreed benchmarks.
Mark Robison works with the Du Val Group as a Director of Du Val Capital Partners and is responsible for managing private equity funds for both joint venture investment and project development finance investment. Mark has 30 years of involvement in the Agribusiness sector. Initially employed by the NZ Dairy Board, he has since successfully operated his own Consultancy practice for the last 20 years based out of the greater Waikato area. Mark brings a strong background of people skills, communication and investment knowledge. He is passionate about seeing and helping people better their lot through improved business efficiency and wealth creation strategies. Mark himself is also an investment partner with Du Val.
Jeff Downey MNZIQS is one of Du Val’s founding investment partners. He is an experienced construction professional and company director and brings a lifetime of property experience to Du Val board. He is the founder and sole director of the Downey group of companies which comprise Downey Construction Limited – Commercial Construction, Downey Designer Homes Limited – Luxury Housing and Downey Asset Management Limited – Facilities Management. The Downey Group is one of the North Islands largest privately owned construction and commercial development firms with an enviable track record for delivering design led projects predominantly through the Waikato and Auckland regions. The company has undertaken in excess of 1,000 commercial and residential projects over the companies 20 years history and has won an impressive number of awards for excellence within the industry.
Sue O’Brien is responsible for the Du Val Group of companies’ accounts. She has an extensive background in accounts, office management and training within a wide range of industries including construction, wholesaling and importing. Sue works with the Du Val Group Management Team to implement improved internal accounting and office processes to enable the group to achieve its goals. Recently persuaded to increase her hours from part-time to undertake Human Resources responsibilities within the Du Val team, she is part of a strong administration team driven to achieve exceptional results.
Kristen leads all Du Val development operations and absolutely lives and breathes the Du Val vision of quality.He succinctly summarised this commitment to quality with the words “The end product should match the CGIs.”
Kristen was originally brought to our shores to Chair the Senior Management Team at a publicly listed construction company in the formulation of commercial governance policies and procedures and auditing and bookending failing projects.
This is trailed by 10 years’ in management positions in blue chip development and main contracting organisations domiciled in the UK. Further to this is a varied professional remit ranging from leading multi-million pound regeneration development schemes to managing adjudications and commercial disputes.
It’s safe to say Kristen is a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have him at the helm of our operations, ensuring the quality and profitability of all developments from concept to post-completion.
Cam heads the development management team of Downey Construction and holds responsibility from initial project feasibility through to practical completion. Cam joined Downey in 2013 to solely focus on high-density projects in the Auckland area. He has successfully managed completion of the 4x ACA projects comprising 279 units which have been completed since 2014. Cam has 18 years’ experience in the commercial construction industry and has worked on major projects in NZ, Australia, Asia, and London with a combined value of over $1bn. Prior to joining Downey Construction, Cam spent 10 years with Westfield where is a primary role with the financial & contract management of their major developments in Australia & NZ. Major projects included Miranda mall Redevelopment A$455m, Riccarton Mall $74m, Manukau Mall $65m and Chartwell Mall $32m. Prior to his Westfield role, Cam worked as Contracts Manager for YJL Construction in London working on high rise apartments & inner-city hotels including the Novotel & Ibis.
Nerissa has 15 years experience in the property industry across a range of functions including property management, investment sales, real estate sales, trust account management, executive support, and business administration. Nerissa holds a New Zealand Diploma in Business and is a qualified Property Manager. Currently she manages presales for all Du Val developments and oversees all business-to-business stakeholder relationships. Outside of the office, Nerissa is a busy Mum to her two children but when time permits she enjoys music, cooking, travel and keeping fit.
For Scott property and finance runs in the blood, he entered the property industry after investing in property during his successful and adventurous military career in the Air Force. He is driven to help people achieve their life goals and to be able to live the life they dream of. Scott is the Sales and Advisory Manager across the developments and Du Val Wealth. Outside the office, Scott’s normally traveling the world, at the gym, hiking or reading.
Troy Rashid is MBA in international business and comes with over 10 years of experience and proficiency encompassing a wide array of subjects like Salesforce, Google analytics, SEO white hat techniques, computer and Internet research proficiency, digital fluency, social media, and relevant tertiary categories. Troy has worked with some of the world’s largest sports collectibles like Beckett Media LLC and its associates, eBay, The Industry Summit and ELI group LLC. As a Group Marketing Manager, Troy has executed numerous projects with top-notch marketing solutions. Oversee, marketing, team management, strategy development, multi-platform media, marketing strategy, brand management, and digital marketing, for Du Val. He is a goal-oriented and top performing team member with demonstrated success. Troy also manages the marketing of Du Val’s holistic business divisions, property development and investment, construction management, funds management, facilities and property management and financial services. With a stronger fundamental understanding of digital marketing which entails project management, brand management, sourcing advertising opportunities, developing vendor relationships, new product development, achieving marketing goals, and maintaining databases. His responsibilities at Du Val Group are varied and include day to day operations in marketing lifestyles and works tirelessly to ensure that contribution as a Group Marketing Manager to Du Val increases the organisation’s performance.
Rohit has seven years’ experience in the graphics and web design industry. He worked in the mighty Waikato where, after qualifying as a Graphic Designer, he worked for five and half years with CRV Ambreed before deciding to move up to the big smoke (Auckland). Rohit is driven to create a strong brand by using impeccable design and is passionate about classic design whilst keeping up with modern features and technologies. He has worked on several big projects from conceptual to the final stage which has added huge value to his role with the Du Val team. Rohit looks after the brand at Du Val and makes sure everything that goes out is within the brand guidelines. Outside the office, Rohit plays cricket and has a passion for photography. If he’s not playing cricket on Saturday he will be out taking photos, drawing, running or playing computer games.
Ben was specifically recruited by Downey in 2015 to oversee the off-site management of Downey Construction’s high density residential projects in Auckland. Ben acts as the liaison between consultants, utility providers and the site project managers. Before joining Downey Construction, Ben worked as a project manager for Xigo Ltd where he was involved with the Union Green apartment project design, consultant tendering & engagement and value engineering process. Other major projects included the $45m Sunset BUPA Retirement Village. Before this Ben worked in London as project manager for the Energy Networks Association, project analyst with Leightons and project manager with OceanaGold in NZ.
Sasha heads our property management team who have combined experience of over 20 years in the industry. Sasha’s role encompasses staff recruitment and training, ensuring company best practice policies are adhered to as well as reporting on and monitoring of KPI’s in all areas of the division with a particular focus on building maintenance and rental income. Sasha manages the flow of maintenance items, working to a deferred maintenance schedule and takes control of the monthly budgets allocated to property upkeep. She is continuously reviewing contracts with service providers ensuring best price options and value for money. During her time with Du Val, Sasha has completed her level 3 and 4 Property Management Certificates, the highest Property Management qualification obtainable in New Zealand.
Aleesa is an integral member of the Du Val team with strength in accounts administration and debt collection which has been the focus of her career for the previous 10 years. Aleesa supports Du Val’s account team with a particular focus on accounts payable and the accounts administration for the property management division. Working closely with the property management team, Aleesa has reduced the portfolio rental arrears by 50% during her time with the Du Val Group. Aleesa manages the company trust account and ensures quality reporting from internal management systems as well as managing monthly payment schedules. Outside of work Aleesa strives to keep upskilling herself by taking on further education relevant to her role within the Du Val Group. Aleesa also has a keen interest in the Performing Arts and music and a real love for animals and children.
Makayla has recently started with Du Val after studying full time at university and working part time in the customer service industry. In Makayla’s role as our Letting Agent, she strives to maintain our vacancy rate at below 3% across our entire rental property portfolio whilst keeping a high caliber of tenants. Makayla is responsible for the marketing of our rental portfolio and the preparation of the properties for viewing by prospective tenants. In Makayla’s spare time, she enjoys keeping fit and playing sport.
